Imagine you are at a baseball game.
It’s opening day and the team trots out onto the field and every single one of them is wearing a different uniform, and some of the uniforms don’t even qualify as uniforms. They are more like outfits.
One guys is shirtless, another is wearing a toga and a crown made of olive leaves. A couple are wearing cowboy hats. On their feet, some have on cleats, others are wearing sandals, one is even in high heels.
Now, I ask you, would you take this team seriously?
No, you would think it was a joke. Because even the Savannah Bananas wear uniforms.
When you are a team, you want to show up and represent yourself with consistency, with a level of professionalism that matches the job – software engineers and graphic designers will have a different vibe from lawyers and accountants.
You want to project confidence, competence, but also approachability – that you are fun to work with, but that you are up to the task.
So this is all to say that your team headshots matter. Presenting consistent, professional, well-lit, well-composed headshots with engaging expressions is a sign that your clients should take you seriously. And hire you.
Which isn’t to say you shouldn’t wear toga to the company softball game. Just don’t use those photos for your LinkedIn Profile.
