How A Team Headshot Day Works

Relax, we've got this

We have a simple process we follow that ensures you have a relaxing and productive headshot session. Together, we will capture amazing images.

As with many things, however, preparation is key. So we have developed the following information to help you look and feel great, to remove questions and anxiety.

Prior to the Session

  • Watch the video above and then download this PDF. The PDF contains all our preparation tips for your Team Headshot Day.
  • Schedule your time slot. If your team is self-scheduling your time slots, this will be arranged by your team person coordinating things. But in most cases we will set up a scheduling portal with times for people to schedule their 15-minute slots. Act soon and don't wait until the last minute, as your choices will be limited.
  • Think about what you want to wear for the session, and be sure to take note in our tips about haircuts, shaving, and getting a good night's sleep.
  • Want still more info and videos? Check out our All the Headshot Things page for every last shred of info about working with StoryWorkz on headshots.

The Day of the Session

If this is happening in our studio, please arrive a few minutes early and don't neglect to account for the maze-like nature of our building (here are navigation instructions). We have a waiting area where you can wait on the couch, and even a changing room if you want to change into a differing top.

If we are shooting at your business location, arrive at the Headshot Lounge location a few moments before your appointed time. We will have a mirror and lint brush.

In either instance, arrive ready to go. These are short sessions (15 minutes or less) and there is not time to put on makeup or do hair adjustments. Check yourself in the mirror, pat down any fly-away hairs, use the lint brush, then it's time to step in front of the camera!

We may talk a bit about posture and expression, about micro-expressions, and then I will then direct and guide you to your best posture and expression, to show off your best side, your most attractive smile, your most engaging expression.

I will have the camera tethered to my computer and/or an external monitor, in case we need to review the results immediately.

Unless we have arranged time for in-studio review and selection, within moments of completing our shoot, you will receive an email with a link to your own personal gallery, where you can peruse and pick the headshot you would like to have retouched.

What do you mean by "retouched"?

Our goal is to make your image look like you on your best day.

We will soften the effects of the lighting. We will correct things like fly-away hairs, blemishes, and forehead or nose shine. We will obliterate muffin crumbs or cat hairs that clung to your shirt, unsightly shirt wrinkles, ketchup on your tie, etc. We will brighten your eyes and teeth, even out skin tones, and clean up any irregularities in the background. It sounds like a lot, but we use a very light touch.

We will not reshape your face, though we will likely add a dash of shadowing beneath your chin to accentuate your fine facial features. (Everyone benefits from a bit of chin shadow...).

The final images will look polished and professional, but natural.

What else?

If there are guidelines for this Headshot Day supplied by your employer, use those to guide your attire. Since we are just shooting one outfit, we suggest that you wear what you would wear to an important meeting where you need to look your best.
