Personal Branding Photography

What is it and do we do it?

People often ask me, “Do you do personal branding photography?”

Well, that depends on what you mean by personal branding photography.

If what you mean is capturing authentic images of you that show how people can expect to meet you in the world, then yes, definitely.

What, after all, is a brand?

It is not a Nike swoosh, it is not a Marvel superhero, and it is not a commercial with a Chevy truck climbing up a near-vertical rock face.

Those are elements of marketing or sales that may have a reflection of or impinge upon a brand, but they are not a brand.

A brand, to quote Jeff Bezos is “what people say about you after you leave the room.”

Or, to quote Seth Godin, “A brand is a shorthand for the customer’s expectations. What promise do they think you’re making? What do they expect when they buy from you or meet with you or hire you? That promise is your brand.”

Personal branding photography, therefore, is collaborating to create images that help express the promise you are making to customers, that help people know what to expect when they interact with you, what they will get, what they will feel.

And a relaxed, free-form portrait session in studio or on location can be a great way to capture a bit of the real you, of how you show up in the world.
